The Super Eagles of Nigeria met with England’s Three Lions in a friendly match as part of both teams’ 2018 World Cup preparations, with England claiming a 2-1 win in Wembley.
Gary Cahill and Harry Kane put England 2-0 up at the interval and though Alex Iwobi pulled one back for Nigeria three minutes into the second half, thus becoming the first player to score for Nigeria against England, Gareth Southgate’s men held off an improved second half performance from the Eagles for the win.
For Nigerian fans, though, it was another opportunity to watch the national team file out in the trending kit of theirs, one which has received so much attention it would have won the World Cup for Nigeria if that’s how teams were ranked.
APC CLAIM RALLY VIOLENCE WAS ATTEMPT ON FAYEMI’S LIFE
The Nigeria Police invariably find themselves involved in the biggest dramas from the weekend, starting with former House of Representatives member, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, getting injured by a gunshot during an All Progressives Congress rally in the Ekiti state capital on Friday.
Bamidele is said to be in stable condition now after being shot by a man dressed in Mobile Police uniform, though the APC State Chairman, Jide Awe, believes the gunshot was meant for APC governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi, with whom Bamidele was walking when the incident occurred.
Basically, the Ekiti APC chairman is saying it was an assassination attempt on Fayemi, who resigned from his position as Minister of Solid Minerals Development to run in the state gubernatorial elections holding in a few weeks’ time.
Meanwhile, incumbent Ekiti governor, Ayo Fayose, has laid the blame for the mayhem on Fayemi, saying the former Minister and his party have brought violence to the state along with them in his (Fayemi’s) desperation to become the next governor.
POLICE INVITE BUKOLA SARAKI OVER FOR QUESTIONING
The plot involving the Senate and Nigerian Police was thickened less than a month after the Inspector General of Police refused to honour the Senate’s summoning to appear before it, the Police have now summoned Senate President, Bukola Saraki, for questioning.
The invitation comes after the Police paraded suspected armed robbers, including five men involved in the Offa bank robbery which left 42 persons dead in April. The suspects had, in their statement, revealed that they were political thugs contracted and armed by Saraki hence, the invitation.
The implication of this is that Saraki is being looked at curiously as a suspect directly or indirectly involved in the Offa bank robbery, especially after a number plate sticker with Saraki printed on it was found on one of the vehicles exhibited by the Police while parading the robbery suspects.
Why Saraki is being implicated now when he wasn’t implicated after the Offa robbery suspects were first apprehended in Kwara State and further twist to this plot remains to be seen as Saraki has put out a statement saying he has asked his aide to obtain the letter of invitation by the Police to enable him to honour the “alleged invitation immediately”.
In related news, the IGP has revealed that he has been given the go-ahead from President Buhari to arrest Bukola over the Offa robbery and deaths in Kwara State.
SUPER EAGLES KITS SELL OUT WITHIN MINUTES OF GOING ON SALE
The hype around Nigeria’s new kits turned out to be no fluke as they were sold out within minutes of being available to buy online and in Nike’s London store on Friday.
And despite the pricy tag that comes with the kits and training gears in Nigeria, the new kits reportedly sold out in Lagos as well. And you people were the same ones complaining about it costing all of ₦41,000. Such a betray.
However, Nike stated it has no plans of restocking. Meaning those who didn’t get on Friday can look to those selling ‘fake original’ for less than ₦41,000. Why Nike aren’t planning to restock is unknown, considering the kits are bound to sell like iPhones in the first week of a new on being released.
Fix up, Nike. Although, the sellers who already had the kits for sale before they were released would probably suffice for Nigerians anyway. We’d ask to confirm but no one’s out here trying to be labeled a counterfeit you know *cough.
