The 2018 FIFA World Cup ended on Sunday with France winning the title, but Nigeria may yet have something to celebrate after its forward, Ahmed Musa, got nominated for an award.
The Leicester City player scored two goals against Iceland in the group stage and now, the second of the goals has been listed among 18 goals vying for the Goal of the Tournament award at the World Cup.
Among the other goals nominated are Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kick for Portugal against Spain, Denis Cheryshev’s first goal for Russia against Saudi Arabia, Nacho Fernández’s volley for Spain against Morocco, and Benjamin Pavard’s similar volley for France against Argentina.
Lionel Messi’s goal for Argentina against Nigeria is also nominated, as is Philippe Coutinho’s curler against Switzerland, Luka Modrić’s goal for Croatia against Argentina, and two stunners scored by Belgium team-mates, Dries Mertens and Adnan Januzaj, against Panama and England respectively.
The award would be presented to the goal which receives the highest number of votes from fans on the FIFA website. Voting is expected to close on July 23. So guys, you know what to do – go get voting.
Cardi B leads MTV VMAs nominations
New mom, Cardi B, has more reasons to celebrate after emerging with more nominations than any other artiste for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards which was announced on Monday afternoon.
The rapper received 10 nominations, including for Artiste of the Year, Video of the Year (for her feature on Bruno Mars’s “Finesse Remix”), and Song of the Year (also for “Finesse Remix”).
The noms come just days after she welcomed a baby girl with husband and Migos member, Offset, with the couple getting social media going off after revealing they named their daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus.
Meanwhile, other leading nominees at the MTV VMAs include The Carters – Beyoncé and Jay-Z – with eight nominations, Drake and Childish Gambino with seven each, Bruno Mars with six noms, Ariana Grande with five, and Ed Sheeran with five noms.
The awards would be presented at a live ceremony on August 20.
Davido to perform at O2 Arena
Music star, Davido, continues to make headway as he is scheduled to perform at the famous O2 Arena in London early next year, with tickets already going on sale from this weekend.
Billed to perform at one of the world’s biggest and most revered indoor arenas, Davido’s show is scheduled to hold on January 27, 2019 and would come just months after fellow Nigerian music star, Wizkid, sold out the venue this year.

Rugrats to be revived with new movie and TV series
Legendary cartoon series, Rugrats, is being revived with a television series and a live-action film with CGI characters according to Viacom Media, with the movie scheduled for a November 13, 2020 release.
The television series meanwhile is expected to air in 26 episodes from Nicklelodeon and is one of a handful of cartoons being revived, with the others being Rocky’s Modern Life, Blue’s Clues, and Invader Zim.
Rugrats originally premiered in August 1991 and aired for nine seasons. It also got three movies – The Rugrats Movie in 1998, Rugrats in Paris in 2000, and Rugrats Go Wild in 2003.
Usain Bolt close to trialling with Australian football club
World’s fastest man Usain Bolt remains committed to starting a football career as he’s negotiating to get himself a six-week trial with Australian A-League club, Central Coast Mariners.
Bolt retired from athletics in 2017 holding the world records in the 100 meters and 200 meters, and trying to kick-start a football at various countries around the world including in South Africa, Norway, and in Germany where he had a stint with Borussia Dortmund.
According to the Australian club, however, no contract after the trial is guaranteed for Bolt, adding that his performance in the duration of the trial would determine if he would get one eventually.
