CROATIA KILL SUPER EAGLES’ VIBE
The Super Eagles’ arrival to Russia was all the pomp and slay – trendy kit, rocking team attire – but Nigeria ended up losing 2-0 to Croatia in their opening Group D match at the World Cup.
Oghene Etebo scored an own goal to put the Croats ahead in the first half, and despite a slightly improved showing in the second half, Nigeria fell 2-0 behind in the second half through Luka Modric’s penalty.
With Iceland forcing Argentina to a 1-1 draw in the other group game, Nigeria lie bottom of the group with zero point while Croatia lead with three points ahead of Iceland and Argentina with a point apiece.
Nigeria must now win against Iceland to maintain any hopes of reaching the knock-out stage or pretty much kiss Russia goodbye and continue slaying with the kits instead.
JAY-Z AND BEYONCÉ DROP JOINT ALBUM UNEXPECTEDLY
While we were all recovering from our slay kings a.k.a Super Eagles getting beat up and Lionel Messi missing that penalty, the Carters – Jay-Z and Beyoncé – just dropped a whole album during a concert.
No warning, no promo, not even the slightest hint but here we are dealing with a nine-track (plus a Tidal-exclusive bonus track) body of work from music’s most influential couple.
The album was made available on Jay-Z’s music streaming platform on June 16 and will be getting a wide release soon – remains to be seen if the Tidal-exclusive track, “Salud”, would get a wide release too.
The album comes after Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” and Jay-Z’ s “4:44”, both of which hinted at the state of their marriage which was rocked by claims of infidelity on Jay’s part.
BIG GUNS STRUGGLE AT THE WORLD CUP
All the World Cup favourites got slapped with a rude reality check over the weekend, with Mexico handing the rudest check of all in a shock 1-0 win over defending champions, Germany.
Germany that everyone’s expecting to school the rest of the teams in Russia simply found no way past a resilient Mexico side that won courtesy of Lozano’s first half strike.
Five-time champions, Brazil, were looking good for the win after Philippe Coutinho’s first half goal until lo and behold, Zuber headed in a Xherdan Shaqiri cross to earn Switzerland a 1-1 draw.
All these came after Lionel Messi missed a penalty in Argentina’s shock 1-1 draw with viking nation, Iceland, while France needed virtual assistant referee and goal-line technology to get a 2-1 win over Australia.
WIZKID MODELS FOR DOLCE&GABBANA ALONGSIDE NAOMI CAMPBELL
Nigerian music star, Wizkid, scored a big one over the weekend after making his runway debut modelling for a whole Dolce & Gabbana, and doing so alongside Naomi Campbell.
Wizkid, who has been seen hanging out with Campbell in recent times, including at his concert at the O2 Arena recently, walked the runway in Milan for D&G’s latest collection, as did Tinie Tempah.
The singer, who is expected to release an album later this year, rocked a blinged out ensemble which was designed by D&G co-founder, Stefano Gabbana.
