By six weeks, the baby begins to develop a heartbeat and by 12 weeks the baby’s bones, muscles and all organs of the body must have been formed and at this point the baby is called a fetus.
The first trimester is between 1-12 weeks of pregnancy. During these stages, mothers are advised to take Folic acid and maintain a healthy diet for the growth and development of the child and it is also important that you find out foods and drugs she should avoid that way you can monitor what she eats. Make sure your wife avoids smoking and alcohol as this may cause birth defects and pregnancy complications she should also cut out intake of caffeine too.
This stage is the most stressful stage in pregnancy so you have to strong, for both of you. Your wife may experience morning sickness, cramps, indigestion, anxiety and sometimes stress. Don’t worry these are regular symptoms in pregnant women and know that these symptoms vary in different women, make sure she exercises regularly to help reduce some of these symptoms.

This is considered as the most comfortable period. Symptoms that your wife went through in the first trimester will reduce gradually and eventually disappear. Her abdomen will begin to protrude and her uterus will also grow in size. Invest in getting the most comfortable maternity clothing so she can avoid tight ones.
During this stage, which is between week 13-28, the mother can feel the baby make movements in her belly and the baby at that point can hear and recognize voices. Its okay to rub her belly once in a while and talk to your child. Your wife will also begin to have leg cramps, heart burns, a growing appetite bleeding gums, back ache, breast enlargement, bleeding gums, frequent urination, nose bleeds, hair growth headaches and some weight gain, again these are normal, ensure that your wife is on a healthy diet and talk walks with her.
