#BBNAIJA Double Wahala came to a rousing end on Sunday with the pilot, Miracle, emerging winner and preventing thousands of Nigerians from suffering heart attack in the event Ebuka had called the other finalist’s name. Some people probably had palpitations, though, in the moment Tobi was evicted from the house before Cee-C, seeing as they came online to express the ‘ojoro’ of it all.
In all, BBNaija did leave its mark on the populace and one can say there were a few lessons to pick up from it as a result:
1. SOMEONE’S “BAD ATTITUDE” IS ANOTHER PERSON’S “STRONG WOMAN”
Cee-C has been referred to as a strong woman by her fans cum sympathisers, who would argue with anyone that her behaviour in the house – which other folks would describe as bad and confrontational – was actually the trait of a person who won’t be put in a corner; someone who bares her truth.
2. IF SHE/HE WAS YOUR LOVE BEFORE BBNAIJA, START PRAYING!
Nina has been all over Miracle from the beginning of the show even when there was a Collins in her life before BBNaija. But the way she was all over him in the final days of the show and especially after he was named winner… new phone, Collins who? Nina that is already planning where and how Miracle will spend the N4.7 million vacation for two he got as part of the perks of emerging as BBNaija ’18 winner.
And it wasn’t just Nina. Brother Lolu professed his love for Anto even though he has (had?) a girlfriend before this Double Wahala thing started.
Then there’s Tobi. Cee-C loves that brother man; forget all those rants she was ranting at him while in the house. But have you seen Regina out here gyming for Cee-C’s wahala, snapping selfies with Tobi’s parents and even Alex’s mother?
Only you, Tobi, three women – minus the thousands more now crushing on you thanks to BBNaija? Wehdone sir, ride on, ride on, we’re watching you from the high places.
3. BEING FAVOURITE DOESN’T MAKE YOU A WINNER, WINNING DOES
Many Nigerians – actively rooting for housemates and casually just enjoying the show – expressed their disappointment after Tobi was evicted to finish as the show’s second runner-up this year.
Or maybe they were just so angry someone like Cee-C was able to last for longer in the house despite her well-documented love-hate (30:70) relationship with Tobi in the house.
Whichever the case was, the show once more proved that being a favourite for the big prize does not hand the housemate the big prize.
4. HOW THE PEOPLE MAKE THE RICH RICHER
Show host, Ebuka, casually revealed during the finale that 170 million votes were received during the period of the show, and 30 million votes were received in the final week alone.
Now before you start multiplying those figures by N30 per vote, not all those votes were received via text as some came in online. But yes, a good majority of the votes were via text judging by how BBNaija fans campaigned for their favourite housemate.
In the end, we the people likely made the show organisers some N3 billion only for the entire duration of the show and at least N600 million in the final week alone.
5. SHOULD INEC CONSIDER VOTES VIA TEXTS?
Imagine our Independent National Electoral Commission trying to get Nigerians to be as keenly interested in voting during the general elections as they were during BBNaija and introduce text-based voting?
Sounds convenient and all, but what if a large set of people decide, “We’re gonna use the ghost SIM cards we bought months ago to get Buhari the win in 2019!”?
Not so convenient any more.
One person votes multiple times with multiple lines.
6. CEE-C NOT WINNING DOESN’T MEAN BUHARI WILL LOSE IN 2019
That said, BBNaija saw people make parallels of Cee-C getting votes and avoiding eviction as a result to how some Nigerians would vote for Buhari in 2019 despite all that’s happening in Nigeria at the moment.
But Cee-C losing at the final hurdle to Miracle will not necessarily translate to Buhari’s re-election bid failing at the polls next year – that’s not how this reality thing works in Nigeria.
If you don’t want Buhari back in Aso Rock come 2019, it’s best to go get your Permanent Voters Card and vote the candidate you believe will do better for you and Nigeria.
