Young girls are taught to live a certain way and follow specific rules and guidelines based on biblical womanhood. I’m a young girl and I know I’ve been told these things quite a few times .
Hold on a bit though, do these guidelines really guide girls to reflect their true nature and uniqueness in Christ or is it just a way of keeping us safe from the foxes in this jungle world?
I hope you don’t mind but I took the liberty of picking out some of these guidelines to share with you guys.
Being gutless is very safe.
I’m sure they told you if you don’t stand up for yourself you’d never get into trouble. Confrontation shouldn’t be part of you. That is so true. I’d rather sit back and watch a bunch of my friends get bullied instead of defending them, I really don’t think I want to get into a fight, come on if standing up for yourself and a few other people would stop a bad thing from happening why don’t you just do it. I really don’t think biblical womanhood is all about being a chicken.
Let’s take a look at Deborah for a moment, the only female judge mentioned in the bible, a wife, a warrior and a counselor, superwoman I would say. I’m pretty sure Israel wouldn’t have enjoyed 40 years of peace if Debby was a wimp. Honestly, think about it.
Old-fashioned and shabby is the new sexy.
I like to think of Esther as the biblical ‘Slay Queen’. When she went to see the king, she adjusted her crown and smoothed he royal garments, put on a bit of perfume and make up maybe, she must have looked so damn good for the king to accept her in his presence unannounced.
Let’s straighten this out a bit. Being fashionable does not mean dressing in skimpy clothing. You can be modest and still look fashionable and decent. A little bit of jewellery or makeup wouldn’t hurt either, just look smart and pretty. Your king may be out there somewhere.
You have to be a boot licker.
‘Be submissive’ they say, but is submission really slavery?
A biblical woman is strong, smart and talented. Take a drop of love and give to a
woman and watch her turn it into an ocean. Submission does not mean you should be a boring, plate washing, toilet scrubbing wife. You can do a lot more as a woman, especially as a young woman.
‘We’ (men and women have been created in the same image so I guess that makes us equal BUT, notice how the ‘but’ is in capital letters? It’s a big but. Created equally but purposefully different. So yes. Every young woman should feel important because you are important.
Have some self respect!
